Faux-caccia

This recipe is for an individual serving of olive and herb grain-free FAUX-caccia (fake focaccia, get it? hee hee). I cooked it in the microwave so it took less than 5 minutes to make. This fake focaccia is my own variation of "Low Carb Bun For One" from Free Range Cookies.

Easy no cook desserts

Several days ago, Sunflower Farmers Market asked their Twitter followers to name their favorite no-bake homemade desserts. https://twitter.com/shopsunflower/status/208621839000403968 We don't eat a lot of traditional dessert in our house - we consider fruit to be dessert and we don't even eat that every day. If you're like us but sometimes want a little something extra, I … Continue reading Easy no cook desserts

Sauerkraut Burrito

Here's a recipe I came up with a couple weeks ago. It sounds weird, but it's yummy (if you like sauerkraut). 1 egg 1/2 tsp dry yellow mustard 1/4 tsp tumeric ~1/8 tsp sea salt (to taste) 1/3 - 1/2 cup sauerkraut (preferably the kind that is still "alive" and made via lacto-fermentation, not with vinegar) … Continue reading Sauerkraut Burrito

Blathy

This blog has officially entered a state of blathy (blog apathy). I was inspired to acknowledge this sad condition by the Clever Zebo blog's own admission of suffering from this affliction. So... "What the heck happened," you ask? Well, the problem wasn't lack of ideas. I have about 10 posts in draft form. But I … Continue reading Blathy

Conversation with the CEO of Beachbody

Earlier this evening, Carl Daikeler, the CEO of Beachbody, asked this on Twitter: Do you think individuals really care that there is increasing obesity? Someone else replied: Sadly, not enough care. Carl said: But everyone freaks out about the cost of healthcare. Why don't they link the issues? I replied: I think people do care … Continue reading Conversation with the CEO of Beachbody

Free food classes in Salt Lake City

There are some great free classes coming up this month here in Salt Lake City! I was sad that I missed the Vegan Substitutions class at Sunflower Farmers Market last Tuesday. The vegan diet doesn't work for me right now but I love learning about food and how other people maintain their health through their … Continue reading Free food classes in Salt Lake City

Saving money on produce

I often share ideas with friends for how to save money when buying natural and organic foods. But I hadn't taken the time to type up my ideas. Thankfully, my friends at Sunflower Farmers Market and Whole Foods Market have done it for me! One of my personal shopping goals is to always "shop the … Continue reading Saving money on produce

Support gluten-free food labeling

In 2007, the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) tasked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to finalize standards for gluten-free labeling. Four years later, the FDA has failed to fulfill that mandate. To the millions of Americans who eat gluten-free food, this inaction is a big deal. Stephanie O'Dea, New York Times … Continue reading Support gluten-free food labeling

Pay What You Can – One World Cafe

I saw a story today about Bon Jovi opening up a "pay what you can" restaurant in New Jersey this spring. That reminded me that I haven't been to One World Cafe here in Salt Lake City in a while. So I thought I'd give a shout-out to them! Even I found something good to … Continue reading Pay What You Can – One World Cafe
