The blood work is back and everything is “normal”. (They did NOT do the test for celiac though, because I hadn’t eaten gluten in a couple weeks and the test is expensive and it’s not always accurate, and blah blah blah.) The doctor said they don’t know what’s wrong so they’ll just call it IBS – irritable bowel syndrome. Since I’ve been reading about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), I know that a change in diet has helped people with IBS, IBD, UC, Crohn’s , Celiac, and other intestinal problems. So I asked the doctor what dietary changes he recommended. He said that diet had no effect on IBS and that he was writing me a prescription for and giving me samples of a drug (big pharma) to “control” the IBS. Then he was gone.
I’m not going to try the drug. I’ll give the SCD 6 months to a year or so and see how I feel. If I still need help, I’ll go find a naturopath. Sheesh.
